AT LEAST TWO FULLY-FUNDED PHD POSITIONS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT

At least two fully-funded assistantship positions in our interdisciplinary PhD program are now available. The positions will begin in spring semester, 2008. The application deadline is Dec. 1, 2007. For international students, please apply before Oct. 15, 2007.

The first is a research assistant position involving work on social robots under the supervision of Prof. Josh Bongard. The project will continue the work described here, which was featured on the Discovery Channel and in Technology Review magazine. This position is renewable annually with satisfactory performance.

The second is also a research assistantship but involves work on privacy protection in location-based services under the supervision of Prof. X. Sean Wang. The position is supported by a new NSF research grant to Professor Wang, and is renewable annually based on satisfactory performance.

Additional positions are possible, subject to available funding. Candidates are expected to find appropriate faculty members whose research matches the candidates' academic interests, and to perform teaching duties at the same time. These positions are also renewable annually based on satisfactory performance.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree and show satisfactory test scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general section. International applicants must submit a TOEFL test score (minimum 600 required). Applicants with a BS degree in a field other than Computer Science are especially encouraged to apply for the interdisciplinary GRA positions.
